We offer a secluded haven of rural tranquility
We offer a tranquil, wood and meadowland haven where you can escape the stresses and strains of modern life set in the rural foothills of the Ariège and Pyrenees national park.
Our refurbished old watermill is situated off the beaten track, nestling alongside a babbling brook, woodland and water-meadows, which kingfishers frequent and where wild flowers, herbs and butterflies meander.
Here we are surrounded by pastoral countryside, unspoiled villages and hamlets tucked away in valleys, where life slowly follows local traditions and old farming methods so that the environment has been left rich in wildlife, flora and fauna.
The watermill features a charming character studio to work in when necessary, while the gite offers quality accommodation with TV and WiFi, exposed beams and a contemporary interior with private garden, terrace, BBQ area and river frontage. It consists of kitchen/diner and loo on the ground floor with staircase to first floor sitting room plus two bedrooms (one twin and one double), both with ensuite facilities.
Further accommodation is provided at a neighbouring gite (with swimming pool) only 2kms away, sleeping 4 plus space for another 3 in the house, subject to availability.
Your hosts at the Old Watermill, Lorna and Neal (with their little Jack Russell dog) provide full board with meals consisting of continental breakfast, lunch (or picnic if working offsite) and 3-course evening meal (sometimes with regional specialities) with wine. On your first night a Welcome meal is provided and later in the week there will be a B-B-Q as part of your package. Refreshments are also provided as part of your package in the mornings and afternoons.
On site we can provide local walks, fishing, cycling and qualified beauty and aromatherapy treatments. Close by are villages and market towns with restaurants, shops and traditional fetes and festivals, as well as tennis, golf, and the region’s ski stations.
We are situated within easy reach of mediaeval towns such as Saint Lizier, Foix and Mirepoix, as well as Cathar and historic sites and monuments like Montségur, along with picturesque mountain villages and important abbeys. Nearby is the Mas-d’Azil grotto, the Parc de la Préhistoire at Tarascon and the famous caves at Niaux, where early cultures left us prehistoric cave and pebble paintings, as well as other ancient artefacts.
The pilgrim centre of Lourdes, the pink city of Toulouse, the historic heritage cité at Carcassonne, and Spain are also within striking distance. We can arrange transport to all of the above, subject to availability.
Please note: Where applicable these additional services will be charged as extra costs to be advised.
